Device Standard configuration compare within KiwiCattools

Hi

We currently have a global SOE for all of our devices we run on our network. This includes firmware and configuration. We use Kiwi Cattools to backup all of our configurations.

What I would like to be able to do is to create a SOE backup file, for all of our device types, and then be able to run an activity which checks all of our device configurations files, based on device type, against this SOE backup file. I would then like Cattools to create a report against this activity and let us know which devices adhere to our standard configuration and which do NOT. It would also be good to then run another activity against those that don't and let me know what configuration is missing from those devices.

I have noticed that there is a "Report.Compare.Two files" activity but unfortunately this is not scaleable and manageable to use for all of our network devices.

Is this something that is possible within Kiwi Cattools and if so can this be submitted as a feature request please?

This would be such a useful feature for us from a manageability perspective but also from an audit compliance perspective.

Jamie

Feature Request: Send Initial Carriage Return

It would be nice to have a "send initial carriage return" device option.  This would be especially useful when connecting to a device attached to a terminal server.  For example, when CatTools connects to the console port of Cisco switch (Cisco Switch IOS device type) via a Lantronix terminal server a CR is required to start sending data - i.e. receive a username/password prompt.  I know support has created custom device scripts for customers, but this feature may solve a lot of those issues.

Thanks,

John

I know the username and password are correct, what am I doing wrong.

I have manged to get this to work on Juniper firewalls and switches and an HP2910, but i'm buggered if I can get the two above working

Hi my friends,

I am running Cattools version 3.6.0, now I am trying to backup the running configuration a HP Procurve 2530 switch. I have tried to enter some combinations of values under the "Passwords" and "Prompts" tab, but always prompted error messages. Can someone show me what value should I set under "Passwords" and "Prompts" tabs?  Below I will show you how I telnet to this switch via command prompt. Thanks in advance!

From command prompt, I key in  telnet 10.x.x.x, then press enter, then I see below page

I key in manager, and press enter, then I am prompted to enter password.

I enter password, and then press enter, I successfully enter privilege mode

Backing up F5 BIGIP UCS archive

Does anybody know if there is a way to backup the UCS archive on the BIGIP's, I think the current template in CatTools only backs up the config file. You really need the UCS archive to be able to restore devices properly.

Many thanks

Mark

Cat Tools alternate command

I have setup a device.backup.running config and that is working ok. When I add the use alternate command for a cisco router and use the "show ip arp" command the process just hangs and comes back with an error "failed to receive current configuration line in device config file. Will this work or do you need to use the activity "report.arp table. Also it fails to send an email out for the report on this activity.

Problems Logging into HP Procurve switches running version 10.74 code.

When i use cattools to access my HP Procurve 2626 and 2650 Swiches, I get failures being caused by a inital login line that is not accounted for in the Cattools configuration. When you log into the switches you get a splash screen that says press any key to continue and then you get the login screen. HOw can I create a script to enter a character and wait so that Cattools can login correctly?  I ahve been told the splash screen can not be disabled. So when telnetting to the switch the 1st screen is not the username prompt.

Kiwi CatTools Failed to enter enable mode for Cisco FWSM and ASA

I'm backing up about 15 Cisco devices using Kiwi CatTools.  It's working perfectly for all of them except the two Firewall Services Modules (FWSM) and the two ASAs.  I get the warning "Failed to enter enable mode" in the Info Log.  I've verified, though, that I can login to the devices successfully from the server that runs CatTools.

I'm using the following settings:

Connect via: Direct connect

Method: SSH2

Port: 22

AAA Username

AAA Password

Initial login requires username/password

Enable mode uses AAA username/password fields

These settings work for the other devices but not the FWSM and ASA.  Any suggestions?

Thanks!

80 character limit ?

Cattools 3.6.0

I created a device.cli.sendcommands job.  The command i send to the device is about 75 characters.

However, somehow a newline is inserted at the 80th "terminal" position, whicht is at the 66th position in the string i send to the device since the device prompt is about 13 characters.

The string is chopped up, so to say.  If i type or paste the string manually directly into the device it simply rolls to the nest line and it works as it should.

Is this bug or a feature?  Any workaround available?

How can I configure Cat Tools to connect to Dell SSH?

$

I am attempting to configure Cat Tools to backup some of our Dell PowerConnect 5548s running-configs over SSH, however I am running into problems when initiating the SSH session. Since the Dell SSH on the appliance is built on top of Telnet, it prompts for a useless field "Login as:" before asking for the local username and password. This first field has no effect on whether or not you can authenticate to the device.

I cannot find a way to put in a carriage return or line-feed command to make the session continue to the "Username: " prompt.

I apologize for my sentence structure on this post.

Stefan

Config Backups of Cisco Small Business SG200-50

Hi

Has anyone been able to get an automated backup of the 200 series small business switches. I noted that there seems to be scripts for the SG300 but not the SG200.

Is there a reason that the SG200's don't work with Cattools?

Thanks

Matt

CatTools Connect problem with HP2920

I have downloaded CatTool trial and want to connect to a HP2920 using SSH. After adding the device, i added a simple Report.Port info table Activity.

Now when i execute the Activity with capture mode enabled, i get an error "Did not receive command prompt after connecting via SSH".

If i connect to the Switch using putty, i get a "Press any Key to continue" after the log-in.  So i assume that CatTool gets stuck there.

How can i either tell CatTool to send a key at that stage or disable that on the switch ?

Hello,

We have an HP Procurve J4903A Switch 2824 and it is integrated with RADIUS Server for authentication.
We are using Cat Tools 3.4 demo version and tried to configure the switch for configuraton backup using Method SSH2.
And using Device.Backup.Running Config  Type and SSH Username/Password are supplied. When Run the backup it shows the errors:
"Did not receive expected prompt when entering enable mode", and "Aborting: Unable to enter enable mode".

Do anybody faced this issue with SSH? Please help me to solve this problem.

Achu

Did not receive expected response to command: show running-config

$

I have a question, I have 2 Cisco WiSM  (Cisco 6500 blade) that I am trying to use Cat tools to backup the config files on a regular schedule. I have run into the following error when trying to run the activity:  "Did not receive expected response to command: configshow" and then Cat tools disconnects from the switch. I used telnet to issue the show running-config command and what I noticed is right after the show running-config command is issued the switch prompts with: "Press Enter to continue or <CTRL-Z> to abort"  or "--More-- or (q)uit " and sits there until there is user intervension. How can I automate the CR to continue command so I can use Cattools to pull the configuration of these switches? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
