HP Procurve Switches - Compare running startup activity

It would be great if you could add compare report activities on HP switches.

It should not be a big development as device is already supported with backup running configuration. All should be done is to adapt the command and the start of the startup configuration capture.

Command : show config

Output Result :

Startup configuration:

; ModelNumber Configuration Editor; Created on release #FirmwareVersion

TFTP backup failing on Cisco IOS switches

Hi,

I am using Kiwi cattools to backup the vLan.dat from several Cisco IOS switches. On about 50% of those switches, the backup fails. In the email I get I only see "Aborting command entry due to command error". As the switches are all configured more or less identically and I cannot find anything that would separate the failing switches from the successful switches (switch type, IOS version, location etc)  I wonder where I could start my troubleshooting.

The failing switches have one thing in common: they are all located overseas, but on the other hand I have one overseas switch giving me perfect output.

Any help is much appreciated!

Getting "No available encryption algorithms match with server....." error

I recently installed two brand new Cisco Nexus 9Ks at a Datacenter. whenever i add them to solarwinds, it gives me the "No available encryption algorithms match with server....." error and i can't get it to back up the configurations. Please keep in mind that we have a lot of 5Ks, 3Ks, and 7Ks in various DCs with no issues at all. It's just these new 9Ks.

please note the following:

- I can ping the devices from cattools so I can reach them

- I am using SSH2 on both the 9Ks and cattools, so it's not an ssh mismatch

Is there anything I'm missing here? Does anyone have any insight as to what the issue may be?

Cat Tools alternate command

I have setup a device.backup.running config and that is working ok. When I add the use alternate command for a cisco router and use the "show ip arp" command the process just hangs and comes back with an error "failed to receive current configuration line in device config file. Will this work or do you need to use the activity "report.arp table. Also it fails to send an email out for the report on this activity.

Troubles for configuring multiple Cisco-800 routers

Hello everyone,

I need to update and configure multiple Cisco 800 modem/routers (thousands of them) so I'm looking for a solution to make it easier and faster by automating the job.

The idea is using a terminal server coupled with the CatTools software.

After lots of tests I managed to work it out except for one thing. This is the problem :

--> When the routers (Cisco 887VA) are starting for the first time they show this message before the prompt :

"

% Please answer 'yes' or 'no'.

Would you like to enter the initial configuration dialog? [yes/no]:

"

The CatTools v3.1.1 software seems unable to recognize this message as a "pre- Command Prompt question" and just reply that error message :

"Did not receive VTY entry prompt from Ciscorouter after CR "

and obviously it is not able to send any commands to the routers.

I have already tried to set up the "Variations > Pre-Login and Post-Login" but that didn't solve the problem.

In advance, thank you for you help.

Backup of NetScaler Config Terminating Unexpectedly

I've suspected for a while that my NetScaler backup has been erroring out prematurely. I actually had some time to deal with it recent and upon review it looks like a special character or something is causing cattools to fail. As far as I can tell when I run the "show command" from Netscaler (v11.0) and compare it to the CatTools backup it appears like a the CatTools back up is choking on a regex line. The last character recorded on CatTools config backup is a "^". The next character after that is a "]" according to a "show config" command. Any ideas about this?

Post-Login Keystroke

I am trying to pull the runnin config from a device where after I login I get the following prompt:

Please press "Enter" to continue!

I am having trouble handling this with the Post-Login Message and Keystroke Variations.  It is apparent that I can't use quotes in the Post-Login message, but I don't see how to escape that character so that it is accepted.  Past that, it is not clear how to send a "enter" pres with the Post-Login Keystroke.  Is it like a "space" where I just need to literally type out "enter" or is there some code I should be using instead?

Has anyone else run into this issue?  What can I do to resolve it?

ASA backup issue

Hello,

I am trying to backup an ASA config using Device.Backup.TFTP and when I run it I receive this error:

Device Type: Cisco.Firewall.ASA has not yet had this functionality added. Skipping this device.

I was wondering if anyone knew what would be causing this error? My guess is that something needs to be added to the Cisco.Firewall.ASA script to give it functionality (please correct me if I am wrong) and then it should start working. If this is correct, can someone please guide me through the process of getting this started.

Thank you,

SonicWALL Configuration Backup is plain text file (was expecting .exp)

We're trying out CatTools as a centralized config management solution for a few hundred SonicWALL appliances, and have run into a bit of a problem.

We can add devices to CatTools, and run the Device.Backup.Running Config activity against them, but the file that the activity creates isn't in the format I thought it would be. Our techs will be expecting an encoded .exp file in the event they need to restore a config, not a plaintext file. Are there custom scripts/activities required to back up a config this way? I feel like the answer is probably "yes", but I haven't yet located an example.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for getting this to work?

Backup Cisco WLC 5508 8.0

i've been looking all morning for a good way to backup my two WLCs using cat tools.  I've never dug into how to use cattools more than just basic devcie config backups on my switches, routers, etc.  on the Cisco WLC5508 i have found a few scripts but have no idea how to access them.  The script i found looks like this,

<!-- edited with Notepad by Jake and Greg for SSH commands and TFTP transfer -->

<!--SolarWinds Network Management Tools-->

<!--Copyright 2005 SolarWinds.Net All rights reserved-->

<Configuration-Management Device="Cisco 5508 WLC" SystemOID=" 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1069">

  <Commands>

  <Command Name="RESET" Value=""/>

  <Command Name="PreCommand" Value=""/>

  <Command Name="Version" Value="config${CRLF}paging disable${CRLF}exit${CRLF}show sysinfo${CRLF}"/>

  <Command Name="DownloadConfig" Value="show run-config commands"/>

  <Command Name="DownloadConfigIndirect" Value="config${CRLF}paging disable${CRLF}exit${CRLF}transfer upload mode ${TransferProtocol}${CRLF}transfer upload serverip ${StorageAddress}${CRLF}transfer upload path /${CRLF}transfer upload filename ${StorageFilename}${CRLF}transfer upload datatype config${CRLF}transfer upload start${CRLF}y"/>

  </Commands>

</Configuration-Management>

i've walked through the script in the ssh cli and verified it'll work, but i'm confused about how to  run this script via cattools.  or if theres a better way.  i tried the device.backup.tftp using cisco.wireless.lan and that fails.

Thanks in advance.

Problem with Cisco SG500 Backup

My problem with Backup the config of the Cisco SG500 is, that I got the error message "Did not receive expected prompt after disable command".

The config was saved but I couldn't solve the error.

I think that they try to open the Enable-Mode, but the SG500 haven't.

I config the "Variations" to Backup the devices but I didn't find where I can disable the "Enable-Mode" calling.

Any ideas where my mistake is?

Config Backups of Cisco Small Business SG200-50

Hi

Has anyone been able to get an automated backup of the 200 series small business switches. I noted that there seems to be scripts for the SG300 but not the SG200.

Is there a reason that the SG200's don't work with Cattools?

Thanks

problem in config mode on HP switch

$

Hi forum users,

I was playing with the demo version and it came to my attention that Cattools only lists the 2600 series of HP switches. We also use the 5400 and 8200 series. It seems to work also.

I am writing this because of a small problem I cannot trace. I have no problem logging on to my HP 2610 switch. Also when in "enabled" mode I can run all switch commands. The problem is when I want to go into "config" mode on the switch strange things happen.

As a test I did the following:
In the CLI option box I scripted the following HP commands:

config
no vlan 60
vlan 60
name nuwerkthet
exit
wr mem
exit
exit
exit
y

This script go's into config mode and deletes vlan 60. After that it constructs vlan 60 with the name "nuwerkthet". Then an exit and a WRite MEMory command. Than I exit the switch and logout.

When looking at the Info log I keep receiving the message "Did not receive expected response to XXXXXXXXXX. It also takes the script very long to finish. (about 5 min.).

The script does not end (logout) and wants to start again. I then abort it by hand.

When looking at log text I see the commands stated before my prompt name. Is this normal? I would think it should come after the prompt. (see log file below).

configFERRY_werkplek(config)#
vlan 60FERRY_werkplek(vlan-60)#
name testvlanFERRY_werkplek(vlan-60)#
exitFERRY_werkplek(config)#
wr memFERRY_werkplek(config)#
exit
exitFERRY_werkplek>
exitDo you want to log out [y/n]? y

After ending the script I found that my command was written to the switch. So it did work. But I think something is not right. Can anyone inform me about this problem?

Thank you.

Ubiquiti Device.ConnectivityTest.Login connection refused by remote host

I am currently trying to set up KiwiCatTools to take a Device.Backup.Running Config of my current Microwave Links which are NanoBridge M5, I have CatTools working for Dell /Cisco and HP Switches.

Following the advice in this discussion Re: Automate backup of config from Ubiquiti NanoBridge M5 (DD-WRT) , I set the devices as Linux.RedHat.Bash and have double checked all usernames and passwords are correct and have also added the prompt fields that appear when using SSH to access the links.

Can ping all devices from CatTools but Device.ConnectivityTest.Login always fails.

Firmware on nanobridges is XM.v5.6.7.

Cattools 3.11 (enterprise)

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Backing up Alcatel OmniSwitch with CatTools

$

HI guys,

I have been trying to backup up my OmniSwitches (6850 p48 variants) with CatTools.

The built in device is for omnistacks which doesn't work (Omniswitches don't have an enable mode) so I started to write my own template.

I can get CatTools to log in and dump the config, however only half the config is dumped.

Initially it appeared it was because CatTools was seeing the session prompt command in the config and flushed everything after it because of bCleanBuffer option in the SendCommandSingle() function.

I changed the GetConfig() function so that it when it calls the SendCommandSingle() function it is passing false to the bCleanBuffer to try and stop the above, however this only gave me a few extra lines of the config and it is still missing most of the config.

Now I am pretty much stuck!

Any pointers as to why this might be happening?

Edit: Ok, setting the bCleanBuffer helps (stops it clearing everything after the session prompt) but another part of the function s seeing it and then runs the exit command which is why I get a few more lines. Investigation
