config backup failing on HP switch

$

We are running CaTTools 3.11 for backing up several of our Cisco switches and it is working great.  However, we also have a bunch of HP switches that we are also trying to use CaTTools with but I'm having trouble getting it working...

Started trying on a HP J9827a switch with 4 cards in it.

I've messed around with the different HP switch options including "other" and the variations...

From the debug log it looks to me like its dumping all the commands early not waiting for the prompts.  How do I make it wait for the appropriate parts?

we dont have logins setup and that is all unchecked in the setup...

What am I missing? (debug below)

Copy Command TimeOut causes error but completes successfully

Hello! Thank you anyone willing to help. My company is using an older version of CatTools 3.6 and i'm having an issue where running the Copy command times out during its execution. However, the command does complete successfully and the backup does appear in the TFTP server it is connecting to. I would really like to set this up to send an email only if there are errors, but sadly it'll be emailing every time due to this error! I am using Nortel/Avaya switches and everything from the 4500's to the 4900's are having the problem.

Here is a sample code:

show run

copy running-config tftp address 10.68.75.32 filename m4800test_config.cfg

exit

--

Detail Log:

Waiting for an echo of copy running-config tftp address 10.68.75.32 filename m4800test_config.cfg command

Did not receive echo of copy running-config tftp address 10.68.75.32 filename m4800test_config.cfg command

Did not receive echo of copy running-config tftp address 10.68.75.32 filename m4800test_config.cfg

Aborting command entry due to command error

Command results: 1 of 3, 1

etc, etc....

Again, the Copy command actually does complete. The file does populate in the TFTP server and its fine, It just takes LONGER than the timeout value of the script to copy it over. So it doesn't error, but CatTools thinks it does.

Is there a way to resolve this? Thank you in advance!

Connect Failed (errors)

I have some connection problems with some of my devices in my network. I have about 50 Riverbed 250L cashe boxes that I routinely back up each night with a kiwi script.

Lately I have been getting errors such as:

Connect failed:(30044) No available encryption algorithms match with the server.

I am sure I have my encryption set up right, as I have only about a 15% failure and they are all set up the same.

Any suggestion I could check into?

Did not receive expected response to command: show running-config

I have a question, I have 2 Cisco WiSM  (Cisco 6500 blade) that I am trying to use Cat tools to backup the config files on a regular schedule. I have run into the following error when trying to run the activity:  "Did not receive expected response to command: configshow" and then Cat tools disconnects from the switch. I used telnet to issue the show running-config command and what I noticed is right after the show running-config command is issued the switch prompts with: "Press Enter to continue or <CTRL-Z> to abort"  or "--More-- or (q)uit " and sits there until there is user intervension. How can I automate the CR to continue command so I can use Cattools to pull the configuration of these switches? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Syslog data loss observed.

Hello All,

We have two systems with Kiwi Syslog server configured on it.

Both servers are receiving log data on default UDP port from the same source.

But at the EOD, Syslog files on both servers do not match. There is a huge difference between their contents.

RAM, CPU and HDD usage is normal throughout the day. We do not have any other UDP traffic throughout the network.

Please suggest what could be the problem here.

Thanks in advance.

Allied Telesis x600 & x908 switches

Hi All,

Has anyone got KiwiCatTools backing up config's with the above switches that are running AW+ OS?

I've tried device of ATI.Router.general and get "Failed to receive '# SYSTEM configuration' line in device config file" and if I try Cisco.router.general (apparently the new AlliedWare + is Cisco like...) I get "Login failed"

Cheers

Steve

Issue backing up Nexus 5000

Hi all,

I'm implementing Cattools for a client to show the value in it (so they'll buy it).

I can't get it to log into their Nexus 5010 switches (2).

No matter what i do, the authentication ALWAYS fails, however i can log into the switches using putty with the same cred's.

Any ideas? Here are some debug's:

Cattools issue saving config to Extreme Switches with script...

$

Hello,

I am currently evaluating Cattools for a client and have been happily using it on Cisco and Juniper devices without issue.

I am able to log onto all of the extreme switches and issue scripted commands with no issues, but when trying to save the configuration to NVRAM the "save" command times as as not receiving the expected response to the command.  It makes no difference whether I select to say yes to prompts or not.

The script being applied is -

configure syslog add <IPv4 address>:5000 vr VR-Default local0

enable log target syslog <IPv4 address>:5000 vr VR-Default local0

configure log target syslog <IPv4 address>:5000 vr VR-Default local0 filter DefaultFilter severity Debug-Data

configure log target syslog <IPv4 address>:5000 vr VR-Default local0 match Any

configure log target syslog <IPv4 address>:5000 vr VR-Default local0 format timestamp seconds date Mmm-dd event-name none priority

save    <--- fails here!

Devices are defined as Extreme.switch.general and amending the device model make no difference.  Commands are being issued using the device.cli.send activity.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Keith

Backup Extreme Summit switches using TFTP commands

$

Hi, We have just installed some extreme switches and currently
it is backing up using model X450-24X running the show configuration command.

We are wanting to run the following below command and wondered whether this
would be possible if we had a variations file and running a TFTP server on
server where cat tools is installed.

tftp put x.x.x.x vr "VR-Default"primary.cfg **Saved file name***.cfg

The above command makes it easier to restore configs if we were to have issues.

We tried running Device.Backup.TFTP activity but it currently only supports Cisco Devices.

Thanks

CISCO WLC 5508 Transfer Upload Start

$

Whenever i try to run a Device.Backup.TFTP on any of my 5508 wireless LAN controllers i get the following error 'Did not receive expected response to command: transfer upload start' I suspect that this issue is caused by a timeout, as whenever i run this task manually it takes around 2 minutes to complete the TFTP transfer. To overcome this i used the following alternative list of commands:

config paging disable

transfer upload mode tftp

transfer upload datatype config

transfer upload serverip *.*.*.*

transfer upload path /

transfer upload filename %ctDeviceName.txt

%ctUM: Timeout 150

transfer upload start

These settings remove the error although cause another problem - it stops cattools from comparing the newly transferred file and the existing file on the disk. The ending result leaves the newly transferred file sitting in the TFTP directory. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Backup Config of Checkpoint Gateway

$

Hi Thwack community,

this is my first discussion

We are having some troubles with "Checkpoint Security Gateway" Devices. Because there is no suitable Device-Template for those devices i used the Generic.Device combined with a Device Variation to backup the Running Configuration.

Device Details: Check Point Security Gateway using Gaia R77.20 as OS, Kiwi Cattools 3.6.0

I always try to copy the manual steps i would do via putty/SSH to cattools. Those manual steps would be:

  1. login via ssh
  2. "lock database override" //get prev. rights
  3. "show configuration" //running config gets printed to stdout with paging (-- More --) -> as fas as i know there is no ter len 0/ no paging command
  4. quit or exit

Somehow cattools is having some problems with those steps :/

It isn´t getting input from the "show configuration" command which should print to stdout "Did not receive echo of show configuration command".

I attached you the log-info File and the Device variations so you could get a look into the changes i made.

Has anyone ever had similar problems (and a solution to it)? Especially with Checkpoint Devices?

Best regards,

Max

Connect failed:(30044) No available encryption algorithms match with the server.

Hi all,

We have installed new Cisco 2960 switch in our building to replace the old faulty one.

When trying to backup the config using CatTools, I am getting the error "Connect failed:(30044) No available encryption algorithms match with the server."

The config is identical to the old switch. Is there something else that I need to configure on the switch for the CatTools to backup the config?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you require more info.

Cheers,

Vig.

Creating Custom Devices [HPE StoreFabric / Mellanox]

$

Hi All

I'm trying to have CatTools to backup my HPE StoreFabric SN2010M storage switches.

These switches are rebranded Mellanox switches

So far my first issue was that the enable mode on the CLI was with a space after the "#" mark

I've managed to get this resolved using:

Private Const DEVICE_PRIVILEGEDPROMPT = "# "

in the created script for this device type.

I have successfully managed to have CatTools save a copy of the running config, BUT, and this is the tricky part for me:

After each 24 lines, the switch sends:

"lines 1-23"

which in my stored config file looks like:

" [7mlines 1-23  [m [K

[K   "

This reoccurs after each normal CLI screen throughout the entire config file.

I'm not at all a script guy - so can somebody give me a clue on how to ignore each 24th line or something similiar, so the running config is cleaned for these annoying lines?

Feature Request: LLDP Neighbours

Is there any chance you could re-implement the CDP Neighbours report to use LLDP, then I could use it on my HP and Extreme switches. I believe CDP is being phased out anyway now that LLDP is fully standardised and more equipment supports it.
Thanks
David
