Support for new device (MikroTik), or help with custom script

Hi,

I'm trying to get a backup running config from a MikroTik router, with the script templates included in the Kiwi Cat Tools Enerprise version 3.5.0 we are running.

I have been able to login into the system via telnet, and get the correct prompt, but when I execute the command to print on screen the current config, I get something like this:

"

It seems like some characters are not well recognised, and I wanted to know if it could have an easy solution (something similar you have detected before) or if it should be neccesary a more exhaustive investigation, even including the support of this kind of devices in future releases.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I'm evaluating CatTools v3.7.
After the evaluation period is expired, I selected "Free mode".

Then I tryed to add a new device, CatTools displayed the following message.

================================================

Sorry, the Freeware edition is limited to 1 device.

================================================

I believe I can add up to 20 devices on Freeware edition.
http://www.kiwisyslog.com/kiwi-cattools-licensing/

The Freeware edition of Kiwi CatTools supports:
        - Up to 20 devices in the device database
        - Up to 20 scheduled activities
        - Up to 10 simultaneous TFTP sessions
        - Up to 5 client threads

Why cannot I add the device?

Hi guys,

i'm just testing around with the trial version of the cattools and so far it really works good especially with IOS devices. But i know have a huge problem to get CUCM (Cisco Unified Communications Manager) or similar devices like IM&P or UCCX to run. I only want to send Commands to these devices which should work, but i'm not able to access these devices via SSL. He always seems to wait for the command prompt, but did not receives it.

My current device configuration. Everything as default. I only entered:

Host Address

Method: SSH2-nopty (This was the only working version. With the other i got Protocol version mismatch error)

SSH Username

SSH Password

This is the Debug Output i got:

Can somebody please look into this and tell me what configuration i miss?

CatTools scheduled jobs not running correctly

$

I am new to CatTools and recently moved a customer's CatTools program from one server to another.  The new server OS is Windows Server 2008 R2, and version of CatTools is 3.3.11.

The issue I am experiencing after importing their previously-set jobs, email notifications and reports is that the jobs just randomly won't run.  If I am logged into the server and have CatTools running, everything works fine.  When I have the program closed and in Timer Mode, but still logged on to the server, it seems to still run the jobs ok *most* of the time.   However, it is hit or miss when I log off the server--sometimes the jobs run and other times they do nothing.

I have CatTools installed as a service, with a local admin account running the Kiwi CatTools service.  The service seems to run without issue.  The two clues I'm seeing that I don't know what to do about are that the mail queue seems to be getting set to "off" randomly, when I check the SendMailLog.  Sometimes it gets set to On when I close the program, and sometimes it gets set to Off.  Does the mail queue just turn on after a scheduled job runs that has the email notification configured?  The other clue is that in the InfoLog, sometimes I see "Unable to start timer, database is not connected" messages.  Again, no rhyme or reason as to why this happens, but nothing runs after I see those messages.

Can anyone assist with this?  Is there a compatibility issue with Server 2008?  I have put a ton of time into this and every time I think it is fixed, the customer comes back and says that they're not getting their email notifications again.  TIA.

Backup Config of Checkpoint Gateway

$

Hi Thwack community,

this is my first discussion

We are having some troubles with "Checkpoint Security Gateway" Devices. Because there is no suitable Device-Template for those devices i used the Generic.Device combined with a Device Variation to backup the Running Configuration.

Device Details: Check Point Security Gateway using Gaia R77.20 as OS, Kiwi Cattools 3.6.0

I always try to copy the manual steps i would do via putty/SSH to cattools. Those manual steps would be:

  1. login via ssh
  2. "lock database override" //get prev. rights
  3. "show configuration" //running config gets printed to stdout with paging (-- More --) -> as fas as i know there is no ter len 0/ no paging command
  4. quit or exit

Somehow cattools is having some problems with those steps :/

It isn´t getting input from the "show configuration" command which should print to stdout "Did not receive echo of show configuration command".

I attached you the log-info File and the Device variations so you could get a look into the changes i made.

Has anyone ever had similar problems (and a solution to it)? Especially with Checkpoint Devices?

Best regards,

Max

TFTP backup failing on Cisco IOS switches

$

Hi,

I am using Kiwi cattools to backup the vLan.dat from several Cisco IOS switches. On about 50% of those switches, the backup fails. In the email I get I only see "Aborting command entry due to command error". As the switches are all configured more or less identically and I cannot find anything that would separate the failing switches from the successful switches (switch type, IOS version, location etc)  I wonder where I could start my troubleshooting.

The failing switches have one thing in common: they are all located overseas, but on the other hand I have one overseas switch giving me perfect output.

Any help is much appreciated!

Backing up F5 BIGIP UCS archive

Does anybody know if there is a way to backup the UCS archive on the BIGIP's, I think the current template in CatTools only backs up the config file. You really need the UCS archive to be able to restore devices properly.

Many thanks

FWSM backup fails with error: %Error parsing system:running-config (Bad file number)

After many years of running Cattools 3.2.7 I installed the new version 3.5.  Now I'm unable to get a successful backup from my Cisco FWSM.

the Kiwi log in debug mode shows that the job was successful.  However the Current Config File has the following:

more system:running-config

%Error parsing system:running-config (Bad file number)

%Error parsing system:running-config (Bad file number)

For some reason the new version doesn't read the running config.

Has anyone had this issue?

On version 3.2.7 it worked fine.

CatTools 3.11 Ruckus ZoneDirector backup fails?

$

Hi.

I have some trouble with getting backup on our ZoneDirector Wifi Controller,

I use all the same settings as the other networking equipment, but this is the only one that fails in CatTools 3.11.

Zonedirector has two login prompts. The first one (Login as) doesnt matter what you type here. You can just press Enter, or type something random. It really doesn't matter.

The next login prompt is "Please login" , where you put your username, followed by password prompt.

Can this be an issue to why I can't take backup?

I've added the debug report.

It looks like it's waiting for  either a ">", "#", "Username" or "Password", and then it times out after 20 seconds

Best regards

Dennis.

Device.Backup.Running Config not comparing files

$

I have been running CatTools 3.4 Free on an XP machine for some time and found it brilliant.

I've recently replaced this machine with a Win 7 x64 machine and installed CatTools 3.6 Free.  Everything is working correctly except for the compare running configs which tells me that there is no change even when there is.  This is occurring for several Cisco and Juniper models and they worked fine under 3.4 (which unfortunately I don't have anymore).

I dont' know if it's a cause or a result but the Dated Configs folder remains empty and does not have any history of the changed configs either.  The version of the running config in the Config directory is always correct (ie it updates correctly when the activity runs) it's just the comparison and Dated Config that fails (or never occurs).

Please help, this is exactly what I used CatTools for.  I've tried a fresh install and created new activities to no avail.

Thanks,
J

How can I configure Cat Tools to connect to Dell SSH?

$

0

I am attempting to configure Cat Tools to backup some of our Dell PowerConnect 5548s running-configs over SSH, however I am running into problems when initiating the SSH session. Since the Dell SSH on the appliance is built on top of Telnet, it prompts for a useless field "Login as:" before asking for the local username and password. This first field has no effect on whether or not you can authenticate to the device.

I cannot find a way to put in a carriage return or line-feed command to make the session continue to the "Username: " prompt.

I apologize for my sentence structure on this post.

Cheers,

Stefan

I have setup a device.backup.running config and that is working ok. When I add the use alternate command for a cisco router and use the "show ip arp" command the process just hangs and comes back with an error "failed to receive current configuration line in device config file. Will this work or do you need to use the activity "report.arp table. Also it fails to send an email out for the report on this activity.
