Backup Config of Checkpoint Gateway

Hi Thwack community,

 

this is my first discussion

We are having some troubles with "Checkpoint Security Gateway" Devices. Because there is no suitable Device-Template for those devices i used the Generic.Device combined with a Device Variation to backup the Running Configuration.

 

Device Details: Check Point Security Gateway using Gaia R77.20 as OS, Kiwi Cattools 3.6.0

 

I always try to copy the manual steps i would do via putty/SSH to cattools. Those manual steps would be:

  1. login via ssh
  2. "lock database override" //get prev. rights
  3. "show configuration" //running config gets printed to stdout with paging (-- More --) -> as fas as i know there is no ter len 0/ no paging command
  4. quit or exit

 

Somehow cattools is having some problems with those steps :/

It isn´t getting input from the "show configuration" command which should print to stdout "Did not receive echo of show configuration command".

I attached you the log-info File and the Device variations so you could get a look into the changes i made.

 

Has anyone ever had similar problems (and a solution to it)? Especially with Checkpoint Devices?

Trigger external powershell script

Hello,

 

I am not as familiar with cattools so please forgive me if this is an easy one. Was not able to find anything from researching online. I have two sets of firewalls that I sync some configuration between them. (Think active/passive scenario). I have created two activities one that grabs the required commands and the other puts it on our backup device. It works well however errors are appearing on the backup because "bad" commands (the show commands for example) were giving bad responses.

 

I wrote a powershell script to clean up the dumped config from the first job however cannot figure out an easy way to have CatTools run my script after the first job is completed. Also is it possible to kick off a cattools job from command line? I would love to have the powershell script kick off the second job once it has finished so the chain is all executed in sequence.

Backup HP V1910 (Legacy 3Com 2928) switch

I am trying to backup this switch using the Device.CLI.Send activity.  Here is what I am trying to send:

Login authentication　

Username:xxxx
Password:

I get to the input of the password and get a syntax error.  Since I get a syntax error there, the rest of the script never runs, it also gets a syntax error.  How do I input a password at that point?

Backup Extreme Summit switches using TFTP commands

Hi, We have just installed some extreme switches and currently
it is backing up using model X450-24X running the show configuration command.

We are wanting to run the following below command and wondered whether this
would be possible if we had a variations file and running a TFTP server on
server where cat tools is installed.

 

tftp put x.x.x.x vr "VR-Default"primary.cfg **Saved file name***.cfg

 

The above command makes it easier to restore configs if we were to have issues.

 

We tried running Device.Backup.TFTP activity but it currently only supports Cisco Devices.

Hi ,

 

I have  Installed Kiwi cat tools on a new XP PC while running  the Activity  I am getting the following  error .  Version of Kiwi cat toll is 3.3.11  and it's 30 days trail pack .

failed to determine hostname

On a cisco device when I try to run cattools 3.3.17 I get a failed to determine hostname after logging on to device.  Any ideas whatsoever?  Thanks.

Log forwarder - 100% CPU spike

We recently tried to install Solarwinds log forwarder to monitor our  firewall "health".  No problem with the install. We are using SQL server 2008. Its average CPU usage is about 10%. The memory stays at 85%.  Everytime I try to implement a subscription (system or application selection) through the log forwarder, my CPU spikes and holds at 100%.  Of course everytime this happens, everything else freezes up.  I have seen posts in here related to the same problem, but never a resolution. Has anyone found the root cause of this type of problem.  We have no wireless systems and recently increased our memory on the server.  I'd like to try this out before we purchase software but it's obviously hard to test drive it at this rate.  Thanks a lot

Cisco Router with Cisco Unity Express

Have a 2800 series router with cisco unity express.

There is no provided mechanism to backup the device (CUE).

CatTools is perfect for this but I'm not a coder!!

Can someone help me get past the point I'm at....

I'm using the device.cli.send to push the following commands;

serv serv 0/1 sess - this gets me into the cue module

after that need to hit enter key a few times to "wake it up" as you have to do this when you are logged in and interactive.

Once you hit enter a few times you get the prompt.

Any suggestions?

Alerting on configuration changes for Cisco Switches and Routers

The main reason we purchased Kiwi Syslog Server for one our clients is to alert on configuration changes on their Cisco 2900 and 3500 series switches as well as their Cisco 2800 series routers. I am having difficulty configuring Syslog Server to alert on changes.  I know Syslog server has the capability, but I must not be configuring something correctly.  We have the licensed version 8.3 of Syslog Server up and running.  I'm attempting to configure one Cisco 2950 running IOS 12.1 (I know it needs to be upgraded).  I was referencing page 9-10 of http://www.sans.org/reading_room/whitepapers/logging/effective_logging_use_of_the_kiwi_syslog_utility_201.  I know this is an older version of Syslog server so maybe I'm not configuring somethign correctly.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi ,

I am trying to use Cattools to back up some Cisco Switches and Routers.

The problem I am having is that the devices are set up for login local and therefore require a Username and a password. I can't seem to find anywhere in the device setup to add the username and when I run the backup job I get

"Specified Username is invaid for device (prompt: Username:)"

This is the same with both the Cisco.Router.General  and the Cisco.Switch.IOS types.

Help please !

The switch i wanted to back-up is the Cisco.SmallBusiness SF-300-24PP.

I keep getting this error;

CatTools: No Results From Device.CLI.Send.commands script against Palo Alto 3050 firewall

I have a Palo Alto 3050 running 8.0.6.  I created a job to send some commands to the firewall and write the output to a file.

 

The test commands I'm sending are:

 

set cli pager off

set cli scripting-mode on

show system info

 

It really doesn't matter what command I send I never receive any output.   Here is what is written to the file/the output:

 

set

fw(active)> set cli [Kjodonnel-adm@NBDCRPIFW1(active)> set cli pager fw(active)> set cli pager off

 

fw(active)> set

fw(active)> set cli

fw(active)> set cli scripting-mode fw(active)> set cli scripting-mode on

fw(active)> show system info

 

 

I can't tell if the firewall isn't interpreting the carriage return of is experiencing an issue with the interactive session.

 

Wondering if anyone else experienced this issue.  I opened an case with support almost 3 weeks ago.  Uploaded a bunch of debugs and screen shots, but not response from tech support since......

Script for HP/H3C Switches

Hi!

 

I'm trying to backup the config of our new HP (H3C) Switches (5120, 5800, 10500). The script I created out of the Custom.Template is not working. The prompt of the switches is "<SWITCHNAME>", not "SWITCHNAME>" as in Ciscos IOS. So the script returns the error "Did not receive expected prompt when entering Enable mode".

Has anybody managed to create a script that works with the HP H3C switches?

Hello,

 

I couldn't find solution for backup configuration of ZyXEL Keenetic Giga. The error message "Did not receive expected response after sending password".

 

Telnet to the device looks like this:

Login: admin

Password: ************

(config)> exit

 

Based on the debug log CatTools doesn't proceed return.

 

Could someone help me with the subject?

Problem to connect to HP Procurve 2530 switch with Cattools

Hi my friends,

 

I am running Cattools version 3.6.0, now I am trying to backup the running configuration a HP Procurve 2530 switch. I have tried to enter some combinations of values under the "Passwords" and "Prompts" tab, but always prompted error messages. Can someone show me what value should I set under "Passwords" and "Prompts" tabs?  Below I will show you how I telnet to this switch via command prompt. Thanks in advance!

From command prompt, I key in  telnet 10.x.x.x, then press enter, then I see below page

I key in manager, and press enter, then I am prompted to enter password.
