Cisco Router with Cisco Unity Express

Have a 2800 series router with cisco unity express.

There is no provided mechanism to backup the device (CUE).

CatTools is perfect for this but I'm not a coder!!

Can someone help me get past the point I'm at....

I'm using the device.cli.send to push the following commands;

serv serv 0/1 sess - this gets me into the cue module

after that need to hit enter key a few times to "wake it up" as you have to do this when you are logged in and interactive.

Once you hit enter a few times you get the prompt.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Paul.

How to properly SSH an Avaya ERS 4850GTS-PWR+

Hello to the group!

Please forgive me if this is a basic thing that a netadmin should know;  I have no formal training on this so much of my knowledge is from bits and blurps from the Internet searches I've been doing combined with trial-and-error.

TL;DNR Version:  What is the PROPER way to get CatTools past the "Press ENTER to continue" screen that follows the "Press CTRL-Y to continue" splash screen when using SSH on an Avaya ERS4850?  I rigged a way through, but I don't think it's right.

Edit:  And I meant to say, I've already seen Wiki Cattools with Avaya ERS switches and the link it provides to variations...

Long Version:

Our organization uses CatTools for taking the running-config of our network gear, mostly Avaya/Nortel/BayStack equipment.  For the vast majority, it's been working fine, as we were using Telnet.  However, we're slowly moving to SSH and I have one switch I'm trying to get into a little more cleanly than the method I've found.

I've spent the better part of two days trying to figure this out, searching Thwack and the Internet in general, to no avail.  It was by studying the debug output that I finally figured out what was happening and came up with a workaround.  But I don't like my method.

Here's the debug before I figured it out:

WFMDBuffer="last login: --[13][10]failed retries since last login:  0[13][10]press enter to continue[13][10]"

================================================================================
I see the [##] codes, which I figured early on are ASCII.  [13] is <CR>, [10] is <LF>, and [25] is <EM>.  I know <CR> is <CTRL-M>, so it would follow that <EM> would be <CTRL-Y> (which we would expect with an Avaya/Nortel switch).

So the last few lines appear to show we R (Read, receive) the Avaya splash screen (all the ### ## ####) and then W (Write, send) [25] (<CTRL-Y>) and we then read from the device a quick banner showing the number of failed retries, etc., at which point we must hit <CR>.

It appears to me, however, by the five "Waiting for" lines, that CatTools doesn't think it's logged in yet. Were this Telnet, CatTools would be correct:  It is AFTER the CTRL-Y where we enter login information -- in TELNET.  But in SSH, we won't see the splash screen nor the "Press ENTER to continue" line without a successful (SSH) login.

So this is where I kept getting stuck.  We're logged in, but CatTools doesn't seem to think so.  To work around this, I set up a variation to use CTRL-Y followed by CTRL-M as a *PRE* login keystroke.  The reason I don't think it's right is because (1) it should be *POST* login but CatTools doesn't seem to think it's logged in; and (2) after doing this, CatTools receives a command prompt from the device, but just sits there for about 20 seconds before continuing, claiming to be waiting for a known device prompt.

The output of the debug after the workaround is in place is as follows:
<NEWSESSION CatTools 3.11.3 3/15/2018 2:51:33 PM>

.......and the debug continues, to show the running-config as one would expect, etc......

The main reason I don't think this is right is because the output states it's waiting for the "Press CTRL-Y to continue" prompt after it's already been given, and the "Info Log" pane shows "Waiting for a known device prompt".

Is there a better way to use SSH via CatTools with an ERS 4850GTS?

Many thanks in advance.  I'd love to clean / speed this process up.

Kiwi Cattools 3.9.1 config backup with Cisco

$

Dear community,

I am currently trying to configure Kiwi Cattools v3.9.1 (no Solarwinds support any more) to back up our Cisco devices' running config. The backup from some devices work without problem, from some other devices Kiwi cannot back up the config (routers and switches).

The network settings (routing, firewall rules etc) are correct because we use an additional type of activity (Device.CLI.Send.commands) with the affected devices which works properly.

When running a Device.Backup.Runinng.Config activity against the devices, two things happen:

- The activity finishes with the following error for all the specified devices and the config is not backed up at all:

     "Unable to log to Debug file. Error: Bad file name or number"

- The activity finishes without error, Kiwi confirms the backup with "Backup Running Config results: OK" for all specified devices, I see in the mail queue that the e-mail has been queued and contains an attachment (HTML report about the activity's result) but not all the configs have been backed up locally into the specified folder (C:/Shares) and the e-mail does not list all the devices as backed up. After enabling debug mode, I can see that Kiwi logs in to all the devices, backs up the configs and disconnects from the devices successfully, so it seems that the activity has been finished successfully but the config files from some of the devices are missing at the end.

At this point, I received the following error message for these devices:

     "Log to file error: Bad file name or numberC:\Program Files(x86)\CatTools3\ClientTemp\RunningConfig.[device_name].temp.txt"                         note: device_name is hidden in the message

The missing files are from the same devices until I change the name of the problematic devices in Kiwi. When that happens, Kiwi does not drop the previous error message any more for the device but does not bac kup the config at all.

I tried to change the hostname on one problematic device as well but it did not help -> no backed up config.

The Kiwi service has also been restarted, it did not help.

By now I could not find any solution on the web nor any reference to any Cattools bug.

Do you have any idea? Maybe some bug in v3.9.1? Do you know any solution?

Thank you for the help in advance.

Linux Jump Server

Greetings,

I'm attempting to backup our devices that are accessible via a Linux server and according to the CatTools help section, sited bellow,  under "Connect via" this should be achievable:

For example, if your device is behind an access list, but a Linux box has access to that device, you can connect via the Linux box first, then launch a telnet or SSH session to the destination device from there.

So looks like this: http://i.imgur.com/IFoVOYz.png

And it's obvious looking at the debug log that when the back connects to the Linux server there are no issue, it's from the Linux to the Cisco device there is an issue and it appear that issue is with the ssh command it's passing:

-8:55:20 PM>ssh -2 -l  x.x.x.x

<R-8:55:20 PM>ssh -2 -l  x.x.x.x

<W-8:55:20 PM>[13]

<R-8:55:20 PM>[13][10]usage: ssh [-1246AaCfgKkMNnqsTtVvXxYy] [-b bind_address] [-c cipher_spec][13][10]

<W-5:41:52 PM>ssh -2 -l  x.x.x.x

<R-5:41:52 PM>ssh -2 -l  x.x.x.x

<W-5:41:52 PM>[13]

It's attempting to use a Cisco ssh command and not a a Linux/Bash ssh syntax which looks like this username@<IP Address>

Am I missing something in the config?

Thanks for your suggestions.

using bash commands in Device.CLI.Send Commands fails

Hi

I am trying to create a script in order to backup a F5 BigIP.

The scripts runs without issues on the device when i run it on the console(ssh) , but when i use Kiwi Cattools, the script fails.

The reason i''m using variables, is to be able to backup multiple F5 devices into one dir, retaining the ID of the device.

I must be doing something dumb, or i don't get it.

#!/bin/bash

terminal width 120
FTPHOST=[IP]
HOST=$HOSTNAME
USER=F5
PASS=XXXXX
UPATH1=Config'/'Current'/'
UPATH=`date +%Y'/'%m'/'%d`
FPATH="$UPATH1$UPATH"

cd /config
tmsh -c "save sys config base"
cp bigip_base.conf $HOST.conf
ftp -inv << EOF
open $FTPHOST
user $USER $PASS
bin
mkdir $FPATH
put /config/$HOST.conf /$FPATH/$HOST.txt
close
bye
EOF

KiwiCattools fails on reading the variables, i get "waiting for respons to command", waiting for an echo.

I am using Device.CLI.Send Commands.

Question ofcourse is... :how to fix it, how to set specifics for each device using variables ? Am i missing the point completly? Is it even possible what i''d like to achieve.

What am i doing wrong?

If anybody can point me to some docs on how to use bash within scripts for KiwiCatTools, that would be great too.

Thank you in advance.

With kind regards, Thijn

Backup config.csv for a RuggedCom device

I am trying to find a way to schedule the backup of a ruggedcom RS900G using CatTools.  We have a banner configured and once you log in, the device prompts you to press enter.  I cant seem to find a way to send <enter> to the device.  That seems to be the hold up right now.

At the end of the day I need the program to SSH in, and copy the file to a directory like my cisco switches.

Hi,

I'm evaluating CatTools v3.7.
After the evaluation period is expired, I selected "Free mode".

Then I tryed to add a new device, CatTools displayed the following message.

I believe I can add up to 20 devices on Freeware edition.
http://www.kiwisyslog.com/kiwi-cattools-licensing/

The Freeware edition of Kiwi CatTools supports:
        - Up to 20 devices in the device database
        - Up to 20 scheduled activities
        - Up to 10 simultaneous TFTP sessions
        - Up to 5 client threads

Why cannot I add the device?

Kiwi CatTools Failed to enter enable mode for Cisco FWSM and ASA

$

I'm backing up about 15 Cisco devices using Kiwi CatTools.  It's working perfectly for all of them except the two Firewall Services Modules (FWSM) and the two ASAs.  I get the warning "Failed to enter enable mode" in the Info Log.  I've verified, though, that I can login to the devices successfully from the server that runs CatTools.

I'm using the following settings:

Connect via: Direct connect

Method: SSH2

Port: 22

AAA Username

AAA Password

Initial login requires username/password

Enable mode uses AAA username/password fields

These settings work for the other devices but not the FWSM and ASA.  Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Cattools failed to connect via SSH to windows server

Hi,

I don't want to spam this forum, but I've spent 5days with troubleshooting without success and I didn't find any related issues on this server.

I tried to make access to windows server via SSH as I found here. But I failed every time with "Failed to determine hostname - no CR or LF".
On windows server is used bitwise winsshd with cisco style command prompt "hostname>" (as described in telnet settings).
I saw successful login on server but due to unknown reason (for me :P ) it finished with error mentioned above.
Captured file is attached.

Thanks a lot in advance

Tom

Hello,

I want to use a Windows Server as a hop to connect to a few junipers. If i start the job to backup the device i get the following error message: Failed to determine hostname - no CR or LF. If i connect via Putty to the Windows Server, all works fine and i can Log in and can type some commands. Log in via CatTools works fine but then i get the error message above.

Device Settings:

Device Type: Cisco.Router.General

no variations or prompt settings currently set

Username and Password is set correctly

I can´t customize the prompt from the windows server, so i need to get it work with the normal Windows CMD prompt.

I´ve set a few prompt settings in Kiwi CatTools but nothing works.

I hope you can help me in this Case.

Windows OS: Windows Server 2008 R2

Try to backup an F5 using SSH cli.  The backups are failing with the error "Did not receive echo of modify modify cli preference page enabled display-threshold 0 command"

This is the variations file:

I've tried disabling echo but get the same result.  The output of the config capture is below.  Almost like a carriage return is not being sent after the disable paging command.  Any help getting this working would be appreciated.

Dear Sir

I am new to KIWIcat tool, first time I have installed this tool to integarate with cisco asa for backup purpose. We manage around 100 cisco asa firewall and used to take manual backup. So we want to convert this process automatically with the help of kiwicat tool. However I am getting error message while take backup through tool which is listed below.

Could you please let me know if I have wrongly configured this or having this error due to any other reason.

Version of tool is 3.6.0 which I believe is latest one.

Please let me know if you require any other information to dig out the problem.

Script for HP/H3C Switches

Hi!

I'm trying to backup the config of our new HP (H3C) Switches (5120, 5800, 10500). The script I created out of the Custom.Template is not working. The prompt of the switches is "<SWITCHNAME>", not "SWITCHNAME>" as in Ciscos IOS. So the script returns the error "Did not receive expected prompt when entering Enable mode".

Has anybody managed to create a script that works with the HP H3C switches?
