CAT Tools 3.11 Manager

$

OK, what am I missing?

I installed CAT as a service, setup my backup schedule, start the timer. But when I close the manager, the timer stops.  How do I make that persistent? Or do I have to leave the manager open when I log out of the server?  I thought that was the point of the option of installing CAT as a service?

When I got to services, I see that its an installed service and its running and set to automatically start.

CatTools Compare Options

Ok - so, I have been away from CatTools for a couple of years, but have decided to dust it off and put it back into production.

I know we can use some compare criteria in the reporting of "Report.Compare.Running.Startup" type, or when we manually compare two files - but what do we do about those options when using the "Device.Backup.Running.Config" job type?

Since we cannot modify the pre-canned scripts, I don't see any way to add a filter of any type - for example, I want to exclude anything starting with a ! from the compare.  Is it possible only in NCM?

Example:

Device Backup Running Config for every quarter

How do I set up Device Backup Running Config to run every quarter? I want to be able to run backup configs every quarter and compare it to ones previously run and also get a diff report

Using 3.11.2 but having trouble backing up the config for Cisco WLC 5800. 1-error : TFTP Backup failed: error with commands or TFTP file not found. Using the Device.Backup.TFTP activity. Device variation with additional command: Showing Running Config is checked and I entered show run. AAA username/password and SSH username/password are filled in along with the initial login requires username/password being checked. Not sure if anyone else has had issues, or perhaps I am missing a critical setting?

Aruba 3810M stack - Did not receive command prompt after connecting via SSH

Hi, I want to backup an Aruba switchstack and received this error message.

I created the device as Generic.Device and tried a lot of different combinations of Prompts and variations but I always get "Did not receive command prompt after connecting via SSH".

What are the correct settings to backup an Aruba Switch?

Here the message I get, depending on the configuration it slightly changes:

Trying to setup Enterprise DLink switch device configuration backup.  Using SSHv2, when I manually launch SSH from the device profile I am able to login, when the script runs we get that error.

Palo Alto Backup Comapre, generates differences and TFTP backup issue.

using the standard backup command in CATTOOLS we get the "SET" style backup. This seems to report the backup being different some times.

I am trying to do full XML backups instead using TFTP, but despite being reported as compatible with TFTP backup in HELP, the job says

"no default commands available for this device"

If I enter the palo alto command

"tftp export configuration from running-config.xml to 192.168.1.1"

It errors on requiring "%ctDeviceName" Variable.

but there is no variable for the output file name in the Palo Alto command..

Seems Palo is not supported correctly after all?

Linux Jump Server

Greetings,

I'm attempting to backup our devices that are accessible via a Linux server and according to the CatTools help section, sited bellow,  under "Connect via" this should be achievable:

For example, if your device is behind an access list, but a Linux box has access to that device, you can connect via the Linux box first, then launch a telnet or SSH session to the destination device from there.

So looks like this: http://i.imgur.com/IFoVOYz.png

And it's obvious looking at the debug log that when the back connects to the Linux server there are no issue, it's from the Linux to the Cisco device there is an issue and it appear that issue is with the ssh command it's passing:

-8:55:20 PM>ssh -2 -l  x.x.x.x

<R-8:55:20 PM>ssh -2 -l  x.x.x.x

<W-8:55:20 PM>[13]

<R-8:55:20 PM>[13][10]usage: ssh [-1246AaCfgKkMNnqsTtVvXxYy] [-b bind_address] [-c cipher_spec][13][10]

<W-5:41:52 PM>ssh -2 -l  x.x.x.x

<R-5:41:52 PM>ssh -2 -l  x.x.x.x

<W-5:41:52 PM>[13]

It's attempting to use a Cisco ssh command and not a a Linux/Bash ssh syntax which looks like this username@<IP Address>

Am I missing something in the config?

Thanks for your suggestions.

Problems with Login

Hi

We're trying the free edition of Kiwi Cattools - most of our devices are backuped perfectly.
But we've got some troubles with the Hexatronic X2 CPEs.

This device has an telnet server and with the implemented command nvbackup, we can send the running config to any tftp server. Now we created a new device:

Device Type: Generic.Device
Connect via: Direct connect
Method: Telnet

Set an AAA Username and Password. As the X2 has a bit another login prompt, I set custom "Username prompt" to login and "Password prompt" to password. Then I created a new activity: Device.CLI.Send.commands and added the command under Options.

The main problem is, Cattools can't login to the Device, so I did a run with capture mode enabled:

How can I configure Cat Tools to connect to Dell SSH?

$

I am attempting to configure Cat Tools to backup some of our Dell PowerConnect 5548s running-configs over SSH, however I am running into problems when initiating the SSH session. Since the Dell SSH on the appliance is built on top of Telnet, it prompts for a useless field "Login as:" before asking for the local username and password. This first field has no effect on whether or not you can authenticate to the device.

I cannot find a way to put in a carriage return or line-feed command to make the session continue to the "Username: " prompt.

I apologize for my sentence structure on this post.

Cheers,

Stefan

Kiwi Cattools 3.9.1 config backup with Cisco

$

Dear community,

I am currently trying to configure Kiwi Cattools v3.9.1 (no Solarwinds support any more) to back up our Cisco devices' running config. The backup from some devices work without problem, from some other devices Kiwi cannot back up the config (routers and switches).

The network settings (routing, firewall rules etc) are correct because we use an additional type of activity (Device.CLI.Send.commands) with the affected devices which works properly.

When running a Device.Backup.Runinng.Config activity against the devices, two things happen:

- The activity finishes with the following error for all the specified devices and the config is not backed up at all:

"Unable to log to Debug file. Error: Bad file name or number"

- The activity finishes without error, Kiwi confirms the backup with "Backup Running Config results: OK" for all specified devices, I see in the mail queue that the e-mail has been queued and contains an attachment (HTML report about the activity's result) but not all the configs have been backed up locally into the specified folder (C:/Shares) and the e-mail does not list all the devices as backed up. After enabling debug mode, I can see that Kiwi logs in to all the devices, backs up the configs and disconnects from the devices successfully, so it seems that the activity has been finished successfully but the config files from some of the devices are missing at the end.

At this point, I received the following error message for these devices:

"Log to file error: Bad file name or numberC:\Program Files(x86)\CatTools3\ClientTemp\RunningConfig.[device_name].temp.txt"                         note: device_name is hidden in the message

The missing files are from the same devices until I change the name of the problematic devices in Kiwi. When that happens, Kiwi does not drop the previous error message any more for the device but does not bac kup the config at all.

I tried to change the hostname on one problematic device as well but it did not help -> no backed up config.

The Kiwi service has also been restarted, it did not help.

By now I could not find any solution on the web nor any reference to any Cattools bug.

Do you have any idea? Maybe some bug in v3.9.1? Do you know any solution?

Thank you for the help in advance.

Hi,

I'm evaluating CatTools v3.7.
After the evaluation period is expired, I selected "Free mode".

Then I tryed to add a new device, CatTools displayed the following message.

================================================

Sorry, the Freeware edition is limited to 1 device.

================================================

I believe I can add up to 20 devices on Freeware edition.
http://www.kiwisyslog.com/kiwi-cattools-licensing/

The Freeware edition of Kiwi CatTools supports:
        - Up to 20 devices in the device database
        - Up to 20 scheduled activities
        - Up to 10 simultaneous TFTP sessions
        - Up to 5 client threads

Why cannot I add the device?

Hi!

Is there a chance that CatTools could retrieve the config.ini of a APC SmartUPS AP9617/AP9630 Network Management Card using FTP? It would be great if someone of the development team could have a look at it.

I'm trying to back up a Dell DR4100 using Telnet, and after changing Username prompt: to login: it will connect ok, but it fails to back up, with error message Aborting: Unable to enter enable mode.

Hello,

I want to use a Windows Server as a hop to connect to a few junipers. If i start the job to backup the device i get the following error message: Failed to determine hostname - no CR or LF. If i connect via Putty to the Windows Server, all works fine and i can Log in and can type some commands. Log in via CatTools works fine but then i get the error message above.

Device Settings:

Device Type: Cisco.Router.General

no variations or prompt settings currently set

Username and Password is set correctly

I can´t customize the prompt from the windows server, so i need to get it work with the normal Windows CMD prompt.

I´ve set a few prompt settings in Kiwi CatTools but nothing works.

I hope you can help me in this Case.

Windows OS: Windows Server 2008 R2

SSH Client/Server: FreeSSHd

Kiwi CatTools Version: 3.10

Thank you for your help.
