Why   ”%ctRunExternalScript("c:\cmdsent.vbs")“  is not executed, but sent directly to the device。

Create a custom device in CatTools

I am working off of the How to create a custom device document.  I save the Custom.device.template.ini to he /Devices folder and rename it to Custom.Ericsson.ATM.ini.  I htem change the name to Custom.Ericsson.ATM under the [device] field and id to 4999.  Under the [item_name] field i change default to Ericsson.ATM.  I then save the file.  Open up CatTools and try to add a new device.  Then name of Custom.Ericsson.ATM or Ericsson.ATM does not show up.  Is the document missing something as i  am fairly certain i performed the steps a per the document.

Problem to connect to HP Procurve 2530 switch with Cattools

Hi my friends,

I am running Cattools version 3.6.0, now I am trying to backup the running configuration a HP Procurve 2530 switch. I have tried to enter some combinations of values under the "Passwords" and "Prompts" tab, but always prompted error messages. Can someone show me what value should I set under "Passwords" and "Prompts" tabs?  Below I will show you how I telnet to this switch via command prompt. Thanks in advance!

From command prompt, I key in  telnet 10.x.x.x, then press enter, then I see below page

I key in manager, and press enter, then I am prompted to enter password.

I enter password, and then press enter, I successfully enter privilege mode

WS5100 Login Issue

The Motorola (Symbol?) WS5100 wireless LAN controller has a Cisco CLI style interface - except for the login. On an initial SSH connection the prompt is "login as:" and the correct input is "cli" sans quotes. Then the traditional username and password prompts occur. I can't figure out a way to make Cattools input that first "cli" in the first prompt - it always tries to use the ssh credentials. I've used variations and set the pre-login stuff but with no success. Now I'm trying to do a custom device but I can't see anywhere to put a prelogin command to accommodate. Have any of you had any experience with this and can lend some ideas on how to proceed?

TIA,

Eric

Backup Config of Checkpoint Gateway

$

Hi Thwack community,

this is my first discussion

We are having some troubles with "Checkpoint Security Gateway" Devices. Because there is no suitable Device-Template for those devices i used the Generic.Device combined with a Device Variation to backup the Running Configuration.

Device Details: Check Point Security Gateway using Gaia R77.20 as OS, Kiwi Cattools 3.6.0

I always try to copy the manual steps i would do via putty/SSH to cattools. Those manual steps would be:

  1. login via ssh
  2. "lock database override" //get prev. rights
  3. "show configuration" //running config gets printed to stdout with paging (-- More --) -> as fas as i know there is no ter len 0/ no paging command
  4. quit or exit

Somehow cattools is having some problems with those steps :/

It isn´t getting input from the "show configuration" command which should print to stdout "Did not receive echo of show configuration command".

I attached you the log-info File and the Device variations so you could get a look into the changes i made.

Has anyone ever had similar problems (and a solution to it)? Especially with Checkpoint Devices?

Best regards,

Max

Hello,

I'm trying to backup a Cisco switch and it says "Failed to determine hostname after logging on to device"

The switch uses radius to log in and as root access,

It doesn't like enable mode as it is already in that mode.  I can run a show run too:

I am trying to upgrade cisco switches to 150-2.SE10 version. I did it successfully for multiple cisco devices recently ( not more than 15). But now when I am trying to do on 21 devices only one of them is successful rest all fail and the cattool service stops working. Below are the few logs from infolog of cattool:

Backup of NetScaler Config Terminating Unexpectedly

$

I've suspected for a while that my NetScaler backup has been erroring out prematurely. I actually had some time to deal with it recent and upon review it looks like a special character or something is causing cattools to fail. As far as I can tell when I run the "show command" from Netscaler (v11.0) and compare it to the CatTools backup it appears like a the CatTools back up is choking on a regex line. The last character recorded on CatTools config backup is a "^". The next character after that is a "]" according to a "show config" command. Any ideas about this?

Getting "No available encryption algorithms match with server....." error

I recently installed two brand new Cisco Nexus 9Ks at a Datacenter. whenever i add them to solarwinds, it gives me the "No available encryption algorithms match with server....." error and i can't get it to back up the configurations. Please keep in mind that we have a lot of 5Ks, 3Ks, and 7Ks in various DCs with no issues at all. It's just these new 9Ks.

please note the following:

- I can ping the devices from cattools so I can reach them

- I am using SSH2 on both the 9Ks and cattools, so it's not an ssh mismatch

Is there anything I'm missing here? Does anyone have any insight as to what the issue may be?

Fortinet Fortigate Backups via TFTP

Hi

I have managed to get a full back of a Fortigate firewall working using TFTP and I thought I would share how I did it with the community.

We have a pair of Fortigates 3600C and we run multiple VDOMs on these, this meant the default script withing Cattools didn't work for us. We also require a keystroke before logging in as well. All this meant I had to use a combination of variations and also the TFTP backup method.

Variations configuration

  • Add your devices using the "Generic.Device" type, this will allow you to use "Variations"
  • Give them a group name - it is well worth using the same group name for all Fortinets as this will allow you to apply the same variations to all devices within that "Group"
  • Fill in the rest of the device info and passwords as you would do normally
  • Go to the "variations" tab and click "use variations"
  • Go to the "prompts" tab and fill in the information as shown in the "qoutes":-

DEVICE_USERNAMEPROMPT = "login as:"

DEVICE_PASSWORDPROMPT = "password:"

DEVICE_STANDARDPROMPT = "#"

DEVICE_PRIVILEGEDPROMPT = "#"

DEVICE_CONFIGPROMPT = "(global) #"

  • Go to the "additional commands" tab and fill in the information as shown in the "qoutes":-

COMMAND_ENTERCONFIG = "configure global"

COMMAND_EXITCONFIG = "end"

  • Go to the "pre/post login" tab and fill in the information as shown in the "qoutes":-
  • NOTE: you may not need to do this if you aren't asking for a pre login key stroke.

PRE_LOGIN_MESSAGE = "(Press 'a' to accept):"

PRE_LOGIN_KEYSTROKE = "a"

  • Then click on the "group save" button as this will then save the changes to the group you specified. This will allow you to add more devices to this group and it will pre-populate the variations for you. This saves a lot of work in the future.

TFTP activity configuration

  • Go to activities and click add
  • Set Type to "Device.Backup.TFTP"
  • Fill in name and description
  • Set schedule under the time tab
  • Add your devices
  • Go to "Options" tab
  • Untick the "file to write to tftp server"
  • Untick the "enter commands in enable mode"
  • In the "optional alternative list of commands" section input the following:-

%ctUM: Timeout 100

%ctUM: EchoOff

config global

%ctUM: EchoOff

execute backup config tftp %ctDeviceName-Running-Config <input your IP Address>

%ctUM: EchoOff

  • If your not using the default file locations don't forget to change them, I got caught out on this. Mine look like:-

F:\CatTools2\Configs\%GroupName%\Config.Current.Running.%BaseFile%.txt

F:\CatTools2\Configs\Archives\%GroupName%\Config.Dated.Running.%BaseFile%.%DateISO%-%TimeHHMM%.txt

  • Click ok to save

Now run the activity to check it all works. What you will find is there is about a 5 minute delay where it shows as a busy task. Be patient as it will finish. I would recommend running this task outside of any other backups as it does take a bit longer than others.

Hope this helps others getting this working.

EDIT

I have updated this to change from using the command "execute backup full-config" to use "execute backup config". This is because we had an issue recently where we were unable to restore the backup taking using the "execute backup full-config" command.

Fortinet recommend using the "execute backup config" command as this just restores the configuration that has been changed.

I have now tested this on our lab device and I was able to restore the configuration successfully.

Cheers

Jay

I am receiving the following message from a newly installed Riverbed Router.  Any ideas?

Failed to enter enable mode

We have been using Cat Tools to backup and monitor our Network gear configurations for changes.  On 9/20 we started having an issue with our DR Firewall connections.  Nothing has changed that we are aware of however now Cat Tools is failing with the Error description saying Failed to enter enable mode.  We have received this error randomly but usually only on one device and it clears up the next day when it runs again.  It is now happening daily on all 10 of our DR ASA's.  These are all Cisco 5505's.

I have set the retry to 4 times and it seems that different ones, not always the same or not all of them, are able to eventually get into the enable mode and get a backup.

Here is what a good connection looks like in Cat Tools Info log:

2017-09-27 11:26:35  4-Debug         1          MtHome_ASA Login to MtHome_ASA was successful

2017-09-27 11:26:35  4-Debug         1          MtHome_ASA DeviceHostnameID: MTHOMEASA

2017-09-27 11:26:35  4-Debug         1          MtHome_ASA Entering enable mode

2017-09-27 11:26:35  4-Debug         1          MtHome_ASA Entering enable mode - sending command enable

2017-09-27 11:26:35  4-Debug         1          MtHome_ASA Entering enable mode - sending password:

2017-09-27 11:26:35  4-Debug         1          MtHome_ASA Waiting for enter enable password prompt

2017-09-27 11:26:36  4-Debug         1          MtHome_ASA Sending enable password

2017-09-27 11:26:36  4-Debug          1         MtHome_ASA Entered enable mode OK

And here is what a not good connection looks like:

2017-09-28 09:01:53  4-Debug         1          MtHome_ASA Login Cisco ASA: MtHome_ASA

2017-09-28 09:01:53  4-Debug         1          MtHome_ASA --> LoginSSH

2017-09-28 09:01:53  4-Debug         1          MtHome_ASA Waiting for command prompt

2017-09-28 09:01:53  4-Debug         1          MtHome_ASA Login to MtHome_ASA was successful

2017-09-28 09:01:53  4-Debug         1          MtHome_ASA DeviceHostnameID: MTHOMEASA

2017-09-28 09:01:54  4-Debug         1          MtHome_ASA Entering enable mode

2017-09-28 09:01:54  4-Debug         1          MtHome_ASA Entering enable mode - sending command enable

2017-09-28 09:01:54  4-Debug         1          MtHome_ASA Waiting for enter enable password prompt

2017-09-28 09:01:54   1-Error           1          MtHome_ASA Failed to enter enable mode.

2017-09-28 09:01:54  4-Debug         1          MtHome_ASA Aborting : Unable to enter enable mode

It’s like it doesn’t send the enable password at all.

Post-Login Keystroke

I am trying to pull the runnin config from a device where after I login I get the following prompt:

Please press "Enter" to continue!

I am having trouble handling this with the Post-Login Message and Keystroke Variations.  It is apparent that I can't use quotes in the Post-Login message, but I don't see how to escape that character so that it is accepted.  Past that, it is not clear how to send a "enter" pres with the Post-Login Keystroke.  Is it like a "space" where I just need to literally type out "enter" or is there some code I should be using instead?

Has anyone else run into this issue?  What can I do to resolve it?

Backup Extreme Summit switches using TFTP commands

Hi, We have just installed some extreme switches and currently
it is backing up using model X450-24X running the show configuration command.

We are wanting to run the following below command and wondered whether this
would be possible if we had a variations file and running a TFTP server on
server where cat tools is installed.

tftp put x.x.x.x vr "VR-Default"primary.cfg **Saved file name***.cfg

The above command makes it easier to restore configs if we were to have issues.

We tried running Device.Backup.TFTP activity but it currently only supports Cisco Devices.

Thanks

Hi All,

I see that CatTools can backup Fortigate OS devices.  I have 10 or so Fortigate Firewalls which I'd like to backup.  But before I set this up I was trying to find out what commands CatTools issues to get the configuration just to check I'm not going to do any damage to my devices as they are hunreds of miles away from me.  I'm running ver 3.2.19.  Anyone have any idea or can point me in the right dorection to find out.

Thanks

Hi all,

I'm implementing Cattools for a client to show the value in it (so they'll buy it).

I can't get it to log into their Nexus 5010 switches (2).

No matter what i do, the authentication ALWAYS fails, however i can log into the switches using putty with the same cred's.

Any ideas? Here are some debug's:
